How often do you take the time to read an online ad? do you simply pass over them, or do you click them if they seem interesting? I personally will rarely click on an ad unless it truely sparks my interest. Curiosity usually doesnt get the best of me. With so many more people with acess to the web these ads are key and are now everywhere from ads before videos on youtube, to user specific ads on facebook.
In order to keep track on how sucessful or the reach of an ad google is now coming up with a new metric system that is "active". They want to achive instant results from these metric systems.

I personally thik that this is a very smart move by google becuase of the need for accurate data, and getting data to companies fast so that they can determine how much to spend on internet advertising.
Google boosting its own business by prompting more spending on online ads and helping companies spend more efficiently.
I think this is a good idea by google, but this is also becoming a race between Google and Facebook, as arguably the two largest generators of ad dollars on the web. Both will try to come up with the next big thing, giving more instant results, and attracting more advertisers. Obviously this article shows the things that Google is working on, but I know from experience that Facebook is desperately trying to expand and improve their interfacing with business clients. As a business page, companies now get results on top of the page with things like reach and how many people are "Talking about this" page. these are constantly tweaking the insights given back and I think that it will be between these two companies to come up with the next big thing in advertising.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting idea because I agree with you, that something will really have to spark my interest and engage me before I click to get further information. I would say that maybe I've clicked on an ad on Facebook three times in the last four or five years that I have had it. I am more apt to click on an ad through a personalized newsletter that I receive in my email or on a website that I frequent. Otherwise, I simply don't think it's worth it to click because it's not interesting to me.
